Our Mission
Kids’ Chance of Delaware was created to provide scholarships for college and vocational education to children of Delaware workers who have been fatally or seriously injured in a work-related accident, resulting in financial need. The hardships to children and families created by the death or serious disability of a parent often include financial ones, making it difficult for deserving young people to pursue their educational dreams.
Fulfilling Educational Dreams
The first Kids’ Chance organization was founded in 1988 by workers compensation attorney Robert Clyatt in Vadosta, Georgia. He developed the initiative after having been a direct witness to the dramatic effect that workplace injuries and fatalities can have on families, specifically the hardships it causes in the pursuit of higher education for the children of the household. After incorporating the inaugural Kids’ Chance group in Georgia, the organization began reaching out to other states to further expand the cause, and now over half of the states in the nation have independent Kids’ Chance chapters.
